How to Track Student Engagement Across Groups in Class

Track engagement by watching behaviors you can actually observe, and record them at the moment they happen. Pick two or three criteria that show up visibly — contributes ideas, explains reasoning, stays on task — and score them quickly per student. If you wait until after class to write things down, you'll remember the loudest groups and forget everyone else.

That's why timing matters. Enter points during the lesson: a projector-friendly view for whole-class moments and a mobile view for when you're circulating keep each score to a tap or two.
